Ubisoft: Tencent acquires minority stake in new studio Vantage

According to the game media outlet Eurogamer, Ubisoft has announced that its deal with Tencent will be completed within a few days. Under the arrangement, Tencent will acquire a minority stake in Ubisoft’s newly formed Vantage Studios.

This new studio was publicly revealed in October of this year, and is set to be responsible for Ubisoft’s three major franchises: Far Cry, Rainbow Six Siege (and by extension the Rainbow Six series), and Assassin’s Creed. According to the announcement, Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, ’s son, Charlie Guillemot, will manage the new studio together with executive Christophe Derennes.

The announcement came via Ubisoft’s latest financial report. Previously, Ubisoft had delayed publishing its earnings report and had a temporary suspension of its stock, leading to speculation that the firm was undergoing a major capital operation. Yves Guillemot said this cooperation is very critical because Tencent will bring in €1.16 billion (approximately RMB 95.2 billion) in cash, which will strengthen Ubisoft’s financial position and allow debt to be reduced as planned. Furthermore, the new studio will have greater capacity to scale up the three major game series.

Ubisoft plans to introduce a new organisational structure in January next year, centred around the concept of “Creative Houses.” The main idea is to let teams be more autonomous, focused, and player-centric. According to IT Home’s understanding, Vantage Studios will be the first to operate under this structure, managing the three core series with an operational philosophy of “autonomy, focus, player‑direction.” Ubisoft hopes these series will eventually form ecosystem‑level businesses with annual revenues in the billions of euros.
