According to The Gamer, a recent job listing from Larian Studios suggests that the (Divinity / “神界”) project they revealed at The Game Awards may still feature turn-based combat.
In the listing for a “Combat Designer” position, the requirements include:
“At least 3 years of design experience with a solid understanding of combat encounter systems; experience with turn-based combat is preferred.”
Since the job posting was first published in September 2025, it’s unlikely that it was meant for Baldur’s Gate 3’s existing support team — that game’s combat system is already well established and not in need of additional designers.
The Gamer notes that Larian is currently working on multiple projects. Still, only one of these is likely to be in active combat systems development — and that is believed to be the new Divinity title, not a side project.
Therefore, the most reasonable conclusion is that Larian is recruiting the combat designer for the new Divinity game, and is specifically looking for candidates with experience in turn-based combat design — strongly implying that the game’s combat could be turn-based.
