Recent reports suggested that while Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) vigilante career will continue in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, one familiar face wouldn't be rejoining the team—"The Punisher" Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal).
At least, that's what everyone assumed.
However, thanks to a recent Instagram post by Royce Johnson, who plays Sergeant Brett Mahoney in the series, things appear to have taken an interesting turn: Frank Castle might actually show up in Season 2 after all.
One Photo Sparks Speculation
Longtime fans of Netflix's Daredevil will remember Johnson as the reluctant but good-hearted cop who frequently helped out Matt Murdock and his lawyer partners.
In the photo set Johnson shared, he poses with Charlie Cox and several other crew members. But one photo stands out: it features not only Johnson, but also Deborah Ann Woll (who plays Karen Page) and—sporting a hefty beard—Jon Bernthal himself (The Punisher).
Two Possibilities, Both Exciting
Given Bernthal's signature beard in the photo, these shots were almost certainly taken during production of his highly anticipated "Punisher Special Presentation."
This leads to two exciting possibilities:
- Punisher cameo in Born Again S2: Frank Castle will indeed appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
- Old friends cross over the other way: Karen Page and Sergeant Mahoney might appear in Frank's standalone story (the Special Presentation).
Just imagine Karen and the Sergeant getting caught up in Frank's inevitably blood-soaked Disney+ special—now that's a picture.
The Bottom Line
Whichever scenario turns out to be true, one thing is certain: Marvel is working hard to strengthen the connections between these "street-level" superheroes.
This means while we wait for the Avengers to face off against Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) in Avengers: Doomsday, we can also watch our favorite heroes drop in on each other in the back alleys and rooftops of New York.
