Publisher DeepMind Japan and developer Needs Games announced today that Dark December will launch in the first quarter of 2026. The game is expected to release as a free-to-play title on Steam (region-locked in China), iOS, and Android platforms, with pre-registration now open on the App Store and Google Play.
Dark December is an online action RPG where players combat the conspiracies and chaos of the gods through action gameplay in a world on the brink of destruction. Within the game's world, a faction of followers and heretical forces operates in the shadows, seeking to resurrect the sealed twisted god Valknut while coveting the "Primordial Essence." They pursue signs of essences awakening across various regions, gradually piecing together the puzzle to break the seal, causing anomalies to occur everywhere as the world begins to crumble.
Players will take on the role of a volunteer soldier, racing against the follower faction to secure the essences while reactivating ancient armaments and defensive installations across battlefields. Ultimately, all battles will converge into a struggle over the Primordial Essence—a fight to stop the heretics and followers from completing their ritual of despair in this apocalyptic world.
The game features a third-person perspective, delivering a high-speed action experience. Through dynamic camera work and impactful knockback effects, the game reportedly conveys both the weight and exhilaration of battle. With this action system, players can challenge "Descent Raids"—high-difficulty group content that appears for limited times—"Void Rifts"—solo challenges against powerful enemies—and "Spire Suppression"—high-risk, high-reward strategic content where players must overcome endless waves of enemies.
