Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy Finale Development Update: Director Reveals "Core Gameplay Experience Is Largely Complete"
Fans of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series have received exciting news. Series director Naoki Hamaguchi recently revealed to international media that the third installment—the concluding chapter of the trilogy—has reached a stage where "the gameplay experience itself is largely complete" and is currently in a deep polishing phase.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake series is divided into a trilogy, with the second installment, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, scheduled for release in February 2024. The third installment is now in active development.
In an interview video with popular YouTuber Julien Chièze, Naoki Hamaguchi shared details about the development status of the third game. He emphasized that each part of the trilogy focuses on delivering a different gameplay experience and game design. The goal for the third installment is to bring players "a completely new gameplay experience and a new scale" distinct from the previous two entries.
Hamaguchi stated that the gameplay experience has largely taken shape, and as director, he feels "very confident" about the final form of the work.
"Honestly, we're very eager to get it into everyone's hands as soon as possible," Hamaguchi said, while emphasizing that the team is committed to deep polishing to deliver the game in a satisfying form.
Considering that the gap between Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was approximately four years, development on the third installment is progressing significantly faster. Previously, in interviews conducted in May and September 2024, Hamaguchi stated his intention to deliver the final installment "as quickly as possible with the best quality."
Hamaguchi revealed that after "a little more waiting," they should reach a stage where they can begin publicly sharing various information.
