Having risen to the ranks of top-tier developers with The Witcher series, CD Projekt RED is currently working on several highly anticipated projects. In addition to The Witcher 4, which is expected to feature Ciri taking over the lead role from Geralt, another major title—the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077—is also progressing steadily.
CDPR confirmed the existence of Cyberpunk 2 as early as October 2022, under the codename “Project Orion.” This May, the project officially entered its pre-production phase.
According to the latest reports, development on the sequel has advanced into the mid-production stage. The studio is actively recruiting new staff members to accelerate progress.
To bolster the project’s development, CDPR is hiring for several key positions, including:
Lead UI Artist
Lead Technical Animator
Lead Engine Programmer
Motion Capture Lead
Lead Lighting Artist
Notably, all candidates for these core positions are required to have 7–8 or more years of industry experience.Known details about the game so far include:
Cyberpunk 2 will abandon the REDengine 4 used in 2077 and instead be developed using Unreal Engine 5.
Players will be able to explore a new city inspired by Chicago, while the iconic Night City from the previous game will also return.
Given that Cyberpunk 2 only entered pre-production this year, and with The Witcher 4 expected to launch earlier, industry analysts predict that the sequel will likely release around 2030 or 2031. At present, its final target platforms have not been announced.
