Valve Engineer: The Steam Machine Performs On Par With 70% of All PCs!

Following Valve’s announcement of its new Steam Machine, discussions around the system’s performance have become a hot topic.

Recently, in response to questions about specifications and capability, a Valve engineer stated that the device should outperform — or at least match — the performance level of 70% of the PCs currently owned by gamers.

Valve engineer Yazan Aldehayyat explained that the company relied heavily on the Steam Hardware Survey to identify the most common PC configurations. According to the survey, systems featuring a 6-core CPU and an RTX 3060-class GPU are currently the most popular among PC gamers.

Previously, many players expressed concerns about the Steam Machine’s hardware, especially given its 8 GB of VRAM and GPU performance reportedly comparable to an RX 7400. In response, the engineer emphasised that the Steam Machine’s real-world performance should exceed or at least match that of 70% of all PCs represented in the Steam Hardware Survey.

Aldehayyat concluded by saying that Valve’s goal is to ensure players can conveniently enjoy all the games in their libraries, so users shouldn’t worry too much about performance.
