In a recent interview with Checkpoint Gaming, Resident Evil: Requiem game director Masato Kumazawa explained the key reason behind the new title’s return to the iconic setting of Raccoon City.

Kumazawa revealed that bringing the story back to Raccoon City was a carefully considered decision by the development team — primarily driven by the strong, long-standing demand from fans.

He stated:
“For many years, the Resident Evil series has featured virus outbreaks set in various locations around the world. When we were thinking about the next direction and the kind of story we wanted to tell, we looked back at earlier works like Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.”

He noted that in RE7 and Village, the team moved entirely away from Raccoon City and the Umbrella Corporation, exploring new creative paths. However, their conclusion was:
“Maybe we should go back to the beginning. Give the fans what they want. That’s why we returned to Raccoon City.”

Despite the confirmed return, Kumazawa emphasized that Raccoon City will not be the only location featured in Resident Evil: Requiem.

The developers are experimenting with new concepts to surprise even longtime fans who know Raccoon City inside and out—while rekindling that sense of fear, again and again.

Resident Evil: Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
