South Korean media The Elec is citing industry sources today that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series’ standard model will retain the same rear camera module as the Galaxy S25, rather than receiving the originally planned upgrades.
According to supply chain insiders, Samsung initially intended to improve the rear camera specifications for the Galaxy S26 standard model and even considered raising the phone’s price as a result. However, this strategy was reportedly abandoned to reduce costs and stay competitive.
For reference, the Galaxy S25 standard model’s rear camera setup consists of:
- 50 MP wide-angle primary camera
- 12 MP ultra-wide camera
- 10 MP telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom
One industry source noted that although some minor components (like actuators) may differ, the core image sensor hardware is likely to remain the same, which helps lower production costs.
The decision to stick with existing camera specs is said to have been influenced by Apple’s pricing strategy for the iPhone 17, which kept the standard model’s price unchanged at $799 despite hardware upgrades, putting competitive pressure on Samsung to maintain a similar price point for its base flagship.
As a result of these changes, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is scheduled to begin mass production this month, while the standard models have been delayed until early 2026.
