According to reports from Android Authority and other outlets, the December Pixel system update released last week was primarily aimed at fixing a host of known issues affecting Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 and newer. However, in the process of addressing those problems, Google has inadvertently introduced some new ones. After earlier complaints about minor glitches in single-handed mode and visual artifacts with the Always-On Display (AOD), a more serious issue is now being reported that may affect a broader range of Pixel 10 series users.

A Reddit user going by tstrmr recently posted that their Pixel 10 Pro XL’s touchscreen randomly becomes completely unresponsive. Specifically, when the phone is left locked and stationary for a prolonged period, the display stops registering any touch input.

According to the user’s description, the device itself still appears to be functioning normally — it can be woken and put to sleep using the power button, and double-pressing the power button still opens the camera app, indicating that the problem is limited to the touchscreen rather than a full system crash.

Currently, the only temporary workarounds reported are rebooting the Pixel 10 Pro XL or waiting several minutes for touch responsiveness to return on its own. The user also attempted to use Android’s location-based “Extended Unlock” feature to bypass the issue, but this only works at home and fails when the phone is away from that location.

Interestingly, many other Pixel 10 users have commented on the Reddit thread, confirming they’ve experienced the same problem, suggesting the issue isn’t limited to just Pro or XL models.

One pattern noted by affected users is that the problem does not occur when the phone is being carried and moved(such as inside a pocket), leading some to speculate that the touchscreen fault may be triggered when the device remains stationary for an extended period.

So far, Google has not provided an official fix or timeline for resolving this touchscreen issue. Some users in discussion threads suggest that completely disabling the Always-On Display might help reduce occurrences, although this has not been confirmed as a complete solution.

This is not the first display-related complaint for the Pixel 10 series. Following a previous update in October, some users reported that screen content became “fuzzy,” although this issue was later addressed with another update.
