The 1.1.3.0 update for Battlefield 6 will launch on December 9 — but some of the changes may make things more painful for defenders, and some players say they’ll quit if they get matched as the defense side.
In Breakthrough mode, players are split into attackers and defenders. Attackers have limited lives to push forward and capture defensive objectives. Each captured point forces the defenders to fall back.
However, in the upcoming 1.1.3.0 patch, vehicle spawns for the defending side will be reduced, while attackers will receive more frequent and plentiful vehicle spawns. That seemingly small change could shift the balance of many maps, in some cases giving attackers a clear advantage.
Some players have gathered detailed breakdowns of the vehicle-spawn changes, and many have voiced dissatisfaction. Some even say that if assigned as defenders, they’ll just quit the match.
On the other hand, the developers (DICE/BF) justify the changes as efforts to rebalance win rates between attackers and defenders, and they’ve stated that they will continue to adjust based on feedback.
Prior to this update, reducing the number of players in Breakthrough mode from 68 to 48 had already incurred considerable backlash. However, as a mode that hinges on offense versus defense dynamics, some imbalance seems inevitable. In that sense — similar to past controversies over map design in games like Overwatch — it’s hoped that BF truly listens to what players enjoy and eventually makes adjustments to preserve fair, enjoyable defender gameplay.
