Taiwan’s Economic Daily News: Apple’s Foldable iPhone Achieves Breakthrough in Crease-Free Design, Poised to Be the Market’s First Truly Seamless Foldable

According to a report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, supply chain sources indicate that Apple has made significant breakthroughs in developing its foldable iPhone, successfully addressing the most criticised issue in foldables: screen creases. This results in a truly crease-free design, positioning it as the world’s first foldable phone without any visible crease—a central selling point for next year’s foldable iPhone launch.

Reports reveal that Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (Foxconn) has established a dedicated production line for the foldable iPhone, signalling that the project has progressed beyond the experimental phase into engineering validation and pre-production.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to be named iPhone Fold. Samsung will exclusively supply the inner display, while Apple leads the design of the panel structure, material processing, manufacturing processes, and lamination methods. Key components, including the hinge bearings, are being co-developed with suppliers Xinri Heng (New Day 兴) and Amphenol, ensuring seamless integration between the panel and bearings to eliminate the permanent creases that plague traditional foldables.

On the hinge front, Apple has partnered with these collaborators to master liquid metal technology for high-strength hinge components. This material offers low deformation and high toughness, theoretically enhancing fold durability while maintaining a premium, precise hand feel.
