Resident Evil 9 Switch 2 Version Runs at ~600p, Supports Ray Tracing and DLSS!

Recently, media outlets released a detailed analysis of Resident Evil 9: Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2, focusing on how Capcom’s upcoming title performs on the new hardware.

The analysis notes that the game renders internally at around 600p on Switch 2, before being upscaled through DLSS. This technical compromise allows the game to maintain overall visual stability despite the lower native resolution.

The report emphasizes that Resident Evil 9: Requiem was developed with ray tracing at its core, making Switch 2’s support for related features especially significant. It showcases the console’s potential in graphics processing. However, compared to the PC version, clear differences remain: lower texture quality, more image noise, and reduced hair detail. In particular, hair rendering on Switch 2 relies on an older “hair card” technique, instead of the strand-based rendering used on PlayStation 5 Pro and PC. This results in sharper, less natural-looking hair.

Lighting and reflections also differ noticeably across platforms. Switch 2 uses screen space reflections (SSR), meaning reflections disappear when foreground objects block the view, whereas the PC version employs path-traced reflections that remain consistent. Similarly, lighting tests indicate that Switch 2 runs with RTGI (ray-traced global illumination) rather than full path tracing. That said, the analysis highlights that many cutscenes retain extensive hand-crafted lighting, keeping the artistic style faithful to the original vision.

In terms of performance, the analysis finds that frame rates fluctuate, though this isn’t unusual for the series—earlier Resident Evil titles on last-gen consoles also often ran unlocked. Despite the low resolution, DLSS upscaling ensures a stable presentation, and since survival horror tends to be slower-paced rather than action-heavy, frame rate sensitivity is less of a concern.

Because Resident Evil 9: Requiem relies heavily on ray-traced lighting, developing a PlayStation 4 version would require significant additional effort. With Switch 2 already supporting native RTGI, the likelihood of a PS4 release appears increasingly slim.

Resident Evil 9: Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.
