At The Game Awards 2025, Remedy Entertainment officially unveiled Control: Resonant—the long-anticipated sequel to their critically acclaimed 2019 game Control. The new title is scheduled for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and macOS.
Control: Resonant takes place seven years after the events of the first game, and players will follow a new protagonist: Dylan Faden, the brother of the original lead character Jesse Faden. Instead of continuing Jesse’s story, the sequel focuses on Dylan’s journey as he searches for his missing sister while facing a reality-bending cosmic threat.
Unlike the original Control, which was primarily an action-adventure third-person shooter, Control: Resonant is being developed as a third-person action role-playing game with deeper RPG mechanics. Remedy describes this shift as part of their goal to emphasize player agency, more open exploration, meaningful progression systems, and impactful choices that shape the experience. This change aims to provide players with a more customizable playstyle and a broader, choice-driven narrative.
Overall, the sequel promises a very different gameplay experience from its predecessor while building upon the storytelling and supernatural elements that define the Control series.
