October 31 — OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced today on X that GPT-6 will be renamed to GPT-6-7.

Altman did not provide a reason for the name change. Interestingly, on October 28, Dictionary.com announced “67” as its 2025 Word of the Year.

Each year, Dictionary.com’s Word of the Year and its shortlist capture key moments in language and culture — acting as a kind of linguistic time capsule that reflects the social trends and global events defining that year.

According to the site, its lexicographers analyzed massive amounts of data — including news headlines, social media trends, and search engine results — to identify words that shaped online and offline conversations. They found that searches for “67” began skyrocketing in the summer of 2025. Since June, the search volume has increased more than sixfold, with no signs of slowing down. Meanwhile, most other two-digit numbers showed no meaningful trend, suggesting that “67” holds some mysterious significance — though no clear explanation exists.

The site noted that perhaps the most striking characteristic of “67” is that it defies definition — meaningless, ubiquitous, and absurd in equal measure.

This may imply that Altman’s announcement was simply a playful or humorous gesture.
