Another World of Warcraft movie is heading to the big screen! The production company Vendôme Pictures has announced a new film titled Ibelin, adapted from the true story of Norwegian gamer Mats Steen (whose in‑game alias was “Ibelin”).

According to Deadline, the cast includes Charlie Plummer (star of Horse Pitt), Stephen Graham (United Kingdom), Toni Collette, Isabella Mossed, Macy Stella, and Anthony Hopkins.

The story:
Mats Steen was born with the degenerative disorder Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), which gradually robbed him of control over his limbs. Despite his physical challenges, he found connection through the online world — especially World of Warcraft — where he played as “Ibelin” and earned respect from thousands of players for his humor, kindness, and courage. His body may have been gradually failing, but his spirit remained undefeated.

He passed away in 2014 at just 25 years old. After his death, hundreds of his fellow gamers spontaneously held an in‑game funeral for him in the World of Warcraft world. Furthermore, the game’s publisher added a commemorative tombstone in the 10.1.5 patch, inscribed with “Deeply missed, never forgotten.” His story was also adapted into a documentary titled "The Remarkable Life of Ibelin" (released on Netflix), which moved many gamers and non-gamers alike.
