Playable Demo of GTA Berlin Fan Mod from 2007 Resurfaces on YouTube

Recently, a playable demo video of Grand Theft Auto: Berlin (GTA Berlin) from 2007 was rediscovered and shared on YouTube, giving players a glimpse into the early stages of this passion project filled with love and hard work.

GTA Berlin is a fan-developed mod project that aimed to transplant the Grand Theft Auto world into the German capital of Berlin. Although the mod was never fully completed, its attention to city detail was remarkable for its time.

From this 2007 demo, it's clear that enormous effort was invested in polishing the details. Of course, if you drive too far or look too closely, you'll notice houses suddenly disappearing and certain landmark buildings standing alone in the fog—revealing that this was still a work-in-progress version.

However, the detail in certain scenes is impressive, directly conveying the development team's passion:

The Friedrichstraße subway station is filled with cool details. The platform signs match reality, waiting passengers sit quietly, and there are numerous humorous advertisements.

The mod continued to be developed for some time afterward, with the official website last updated in 2015. During this period, the project completed the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs' Zietenplatz and its adjacent subway station.

Berlin's Museum Island (Museumsinsel), the Mecklenburg State Representative Office, Pariser Platz, and a small section of Unter den Linden avenue were also recreated in the mod.

Although the GTA Berlin mod was never completed, this demo video offers an excellent glimpse into what was already included, as well as the ambitious vision that was never fully realized.
