According to Bloomberg, sources have revealed that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is currently in discussions with Saudi Arabia's Savvy Games about the potential sale of Shanghai Moonton Technology Co. Ltd.
Savvy Games, a subsidiary fully owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), is PIF's gaming and esports investment arm. Notably, PIF was also one of the buyers involved in Electronic Arts' acquisition plans.
This negotiation signals that ByteDance has resumed its efforts to sell Shanghai Moonton Technology Co., Ltd. ByteDance acquired Moonton for approximately $4 billion in the past. Moonton is known for developing popular games such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Silver & Crimson, and others.
Founded in 2014, Shanghai Moonton Technology focuses on global game development and publishing, with the goal of becoming a world-class game company with top-tier R&D and operational capabilities. The company is headquartered in Shanghai and has branches in locations such as Indonesia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Sources say that the talks are still ongoing, and both ByteDance and Savvy Games have declined to comment. The specific details are yet to be officially confirmed, and players are advised to view the situation with caution until further announcements.
