Apple iPhone Pocket sold out in all regions

On November 11, Apple unveiled iPhone Pocket, a limited-edition accessory co-designed with ISSEY MIYAKE. It draws inspiration from the designer’s “a piece of cloth” concept and uses a unique 3D-knitted, one-piece construction. The accessory is designed to fit any iPhone and other small daily items, offering a “wearable pocket” rather than a traditional phone case.

What’s unusual: the “pocket” is soft knit fabric, not rigid plastic or leather. It’s designed to be worn or carried — hand-held, slung over the shoulder, or attached to a bag — making the iPhone part of one’s outfit.

💰 Pricing & Versions

  • Short-strap (short) version — available in 8 colours (lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, black), priced from 1,299 RMB (or ~ NT$4,990).
  • Long-strap (extended) version — available in sapphire (blue), cinnamon (brown), and black, priced from 1,899 RMB (or ~ NT$7,790).

Despite the soft-fabric, “sock-like” nature of the item, the pricing places it in the high-end accessory category.

🛒 Release & Sell-out

The iPhone Pocket went on sale on November 14 in select markets, including the U.S., France, Greater China (including Taiwan), Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the U.K., via apple.com and select Apple Stores.

According to reports, it sold out almost immediately worldwide.

📣 Public Reaction & Criticism

  • Some people praised its design — seeing it as a fusion of fashion and technology, and a fresh approach to carrying a phone.
  • Others ridiculed it heavily. On social media, many mocked the price and appearance, calling it a “sock for your phone” or comparing it to a “cut-up sock.” For example, a user on X wrote that it was “$230 just for a cut-up sock.”
  • Some viewed it as a “luxury fashion accessory” rather than a practical phone case — noting that it doesn’t provide phone protection against drops, weather, or hard use.

One notable voice among critics and observers said that the iPhone Pocket may serve as “a litmus test for Apple fans’ willingness to buy or justify any Apple product” — casting it as an exercise in brand loyalty rather than practicality.

🧵 Design & Philosophy

According to Apple’s press release, iPhone Pocket was built with a single 3D-knitted structure inspired by the “A Piece of Cloth” philosophy from ISSEY MIYAKE. It embodies minimalism, flexibility, and transforms the very concept of how people carry their devices: not in a pocket or bag, but as an integral part of one’s outfit.

The idea seems to be to treat the iPhone as part of daily wear — to “wear and beautifully carry iPhone.”
